James Baldwin 100th Birthday Celebration at Georgetown Library - Grand Finale 8/1@5:30PM
Please join us in celebrating the remarkable life and enduring legacy of James Baldwin on his 100th Birthday! In honor of this literary giant and social justice advocate, we will be cutting a special birthday cake to commemorate his contributions to literature, civil rights, and the enduring pursuit of justice and equality. We will also welcome a special visitor and speaker Deborah Tulani Salahu-Din, Smithsonian researcher in African American Literary History. Her recent projects at the National Museum of African American History and Culture included Chez Baldwin, a digital exhibition that explores the life and works of writer and activist James A. Baldwin through the lens of his house in the South of France. Her talk “Why Baldwin Matters Today”, will underscore two societal values that help frame Baldwin’s life, work, and that illustrate why his thoughts and messages still matter to the nation and world. Two of these values are freedom and identity. The event is scheduled for August 1st at 5:30PM in the Reading Room of Georgetown Neighborhood Library. We look forward to celebrating James Baldwin's 100th birthday with you!
