602 cookout 5
Hello Folks, We're getting close to the end of the month and our 602 cookout up at Plateau Sky Ranch (1F2). As a reminder, the plan is to gather around noon on Saturday, 6/29, with a rain date of Sunday. A main course will be provided by the Chapter (burgers/dogs/chicken), but you are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Drinks are also appreciated. If you plan to attend, please reply to this email with a headcount and what you can bring. We don't want 12 potato salads :) I'm planning to bring a Key Lime pie. I also have some paper plates and plastic utensils that I'll bring along. Thanks, Ed

Burgers, dogs, and drinks (soda, etc) will be avaliable around 6 PM, meeting to start at 7PM. Right now the weather forecast looks good. Skywarrior at NY0 6
Hello 602, Sam Barth reached out again looking for help to clean up the Skywarrior parked at the entrance to Fulton Co. Airport. He asked if folks would be available on Saturday, June 1. If so, he can arrange for equipment (lift, water truck, etc) to be available and we just provide labor. I have a commitment in the afternoon on the 1st, but would be available in the morning. Anyone else? Please let me know so I can get back to Sam. Thanks! Ed

Albany tower tour 5/10 at 11 am 8
Ok here’s the scoop. Meet at 130 Sicker road tomorrow at 11 sharp. I’ll be there a bit ahead to gather folks. If you get there ahead of time pull off the side (I’ll be in a grey Mazda sedan) and we’ll go thru the gate together. If you’re a bit late you can just pull up to the gate and hit the button and they will let you in to park. Contact person is Dan Penerick. Reach out to me if you have questions and please respond if you plan on coming so I have a head count. On May 6, 2024, at 6:58 PM, E. Bill has graciously offered us use of the green hangar/tables on the southwest side of the runway, which gives us some space and cover in the event of less than ideal weather. Aviation Expo tomorrow at 3B0 2
I've organized a fly-in tomorrow for a 1,700 member Facebook/Meetup group I organize (The Northeast Pilots Group). Since this is our first meetup event in over a year, only 12 from this large group are attending so far. Join us tomorrow if you can! We're meeting at 10am Sharp at the brand new Flight Deck restaurant on the field at 3B0 (Southbridge). There is an aviation expo taking place there tomorrow and while a runway closure isn't NOTAM'd, they may informally close the runway from 12pm-2pm for RC demos. If you want to come out and join us for breakfast, sign up here: https://www.meetup.com/nepilotsgroup/events/300002697/ Hope to see some of you from 602 there! - Joel

KALB tower and Tracon tour 2
Hey folks! Good news I have lined up a tour of the Albany tower and Tracon for Friday May 10th at 11AM. I know that this may conflict with some work schedules but Friday is the best day for them for tours since staffing on weekends is limited to active controllers. Hope we can get a great turnout, last time we had inclement icy weather that impacted travel for many folks. I’ll be looking for a rough head count of those you can come at the meeting tonight. If you can’t make the meeting you can message me here. As the date gets closer I’ll give detailed info on where to park and meet. See you tonight! Darryl

Notice: April Chapter 602 Meeting Vote
Good Morning All, I hope you've managed to stay dry over the past few weeks - here and in FL, for those that may have headed down to Sun N' Fun! For those that have been able to attend, at the last few chapter meetings we have tossed around ideas for meeting locations for the nice weather months. Fulton County has been good to us in the past, but without access to the big hangar or the former Grandma Millie's building, we're limited in the event of inclement weather and lack storage options for common-use chapter equipment. Two general proposals have been discussed. We plan to confirm/finalize details of each proposal and put it to a vote at this month's meeting (April 30 at C&R) so the May meeting can be planned accordingly: General Proposal 1: Move the 602 "home base" to Plateau Sky Ranch (1F2), and hold our summertime meetings there. Bill Wade suggested this idea back at our fall chapter potluck. We may be able to use the "clubhouse" at the end of the runway, although it's a bit small and will need some cleanup work and homey touches to be good for meetings. Pro: a central location for meetings and events at an active airport where we have a designated chapter space. Con: distance from some current members of 602 (myself included). General Proposal 2: Move the 602 "home base" to 1F2 (or another suitable airport where we can store common use equipment and hold events), but establish and post a schedule for summertime meetings that includes other airports in the area (NY0, 5B2, W57, joint meeting with 353 at KGFL, etc.). Pro: a central location for our stuff and to host events, but with flexibility for some to attend meetings that are closer to them, and potential overlap/interest from pilot populations at other airports. Con: a rotating meeting schedule will be more difficult to plan and the lack of consistent meeting location may confuse new folks who might want to start attending meetings. Again, the plan for the April 30 meeting is to discuss and finalize these two options (or any alternatives proposed by membership), and to take a vote. Wanted to put this out there so folks can plan to attend and participate in this discussion. If you cannot attend the meeting, but have a strong opinion one way or the other, please do not hesitate to reach out to me prior to April 30. Thanks, and have a great day :) -Ed Z
