I have an old studio photograph of Mark BURNHAM which was taken at the J. E. Ward Studio in La Porte City, IA. It appears to have been taken in the 1880’s with Mark likely in his 20’s or 30’s at the time that it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Mark and his family: Mark BURNHAM or BURNAM was b. abt 1860 in Tama Co., IA to parents Erastus A. BURNHAM or BURNAM (1831-1905) and Louisa McGuire FORBIS or BALLARD or BULLARD (1842-1909). Mark was one of 12 children born to this couple including Minerva Jane; Mark; Lavinia “Vina” Davis; David Moore; Curtis Andrew; A. M.; Robert Thomas; Edward Everett; Jennette “Nettie” Susan; Frances “Fannie” E.; Minnie Alice; and Louisa BURNHAM or BURNAM, all born between 1855 and 1889. Mark BURNHAM married Ellie W. PRAY on 12 Mar 1883 in Black Hawk Co., IA. Ellie W. PRAY was born abt 1857 or 1858 in New Jersey or Pennsylvania, the daughter of Robert PRAY and Elizabeth WINNER who were both born in Pennsylvania. The 1880 census of La Porte City, IA included her family as follows: Robert J. PRAY, age 50 Elizabeth PRAY, age 48, his wife Clifford PRAY, age 23, his son Ellie PRAY, age 23, his dau Emeline PRAY, age 19, his dau Edith PRAY, age 12, his dau I am hoping to locate someone from Mark’s family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of family. I have an old studio photograph identified as William & Edith MCWILLIAMS who were grandparents to Ruth Evelyn DEGRAW. The photograph was taken at the R. I. Steele Studio in Waukon, IA sometime in the 1890's. William & Edith appear to be in their teens or 20's at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this couple: William MCWILLIAMS was b. 4 Nov 1869 in Postville, IA to parents Nathaniel “Nathan” MCWILLIAMS (1825-1896) and Mary “May” Julie or Julia YULE or YULL or YOULE (1838-1905) who were married 6 Jul 1863 in Scotland. William was one 9 children born to this couple including Catherine; Mary Jane “Jennie”; William; James; George R.; Alexander “Alex” or “Alick”; Helen “Ellen”; Anna “Annie”; and Amanda MCWILLIAMS, all born between 1863 to 1880. William’s father was married previously and had 7 additional children including Jessie Taylor; Margaret; John Watt; Eliza or Elisia; Mary; Barbara; Catherine “Kate” MCWILLIAMS, all born between 1848 and 1861. William married Delila or Delia Edith STEVENS (1876-1937) in 1893 and they had two daughters Delilah Mabel “Lyda” or “Lida” MCWILLIAMS DEGRAW (1894-1966) and an adopted daughter Maud Irene MCWILLIAMS (1915-2001). William died 21 Aug 1940 in Waukon, IA and is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, IA. Delila Edith STEVENS was b. 25 Mar 1876 in Sibley, IA to parents Daniel Francis STEVENS (1844-1912) and Florence MERO (1853-1922) who were married 5 May 1868 in Mifflin, WI. Delila was one of 11 children born to this couple including Mary Alice; Joseph Francis; Perry David; Delila Edith; Ada Ellen; Anna Daisy; Archie William; Daniel Augustine; John Esten; Eliza Jessieman or Jessamine; and Wayne Delbert STEVENS, all born between 1869 and 1892. Delila married William MCWILLIAMS on 17 Sept 1893 in Waukon, IA. Delila died 24 Nov 1937 in Waukon, IA and is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, IA. Ruth Evelyn DEGRAW was b. 5 or 15 Jul 1920 in Cedar Falls, IA to parents Glenn Allen DEGRAW (1888-1964) and Lyda or Lida Delilah M. MCWILLIAMS (1894-1966) who were married 20 Dec 1917 in Waukon, IA. Ruth was one of two children born to this couple including a sister Edith DEGRAW (1922-1973). It doesn’t appear that Ruth ever married and didn’t have any children either. Ruth died 30 Sept 2003 and is buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, IA. Ruth’s obituary indicated that she was survived by three nephews including Jim WILMOT of Dallas, GA; Dan WILMOT of Pahoa, HI; and Dr. Barclay BAKKUM of Aurora, IL; and a niece Bonnie CARNES of Olympia Fields, IL. I have an old studio photograph of Dr. Livingston MORRIS which was taken at the Geo. K. Gilchrist Studio in Cedar Falls, IA. Dr. MORRIS appears to be in his 20’s or 30’s at the time it was taken, most likely in the 1880’s. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Dr. MORRIS and his family: Dr. Livingston MORRIS was b. 14 Aug 1858 in Van Buren, IA to parents Samuel Mark MORRIS (1827-1894) and Charlotte Augusta ROBBINS or ROBYNS (1834-1915). Livingston was one of 6 children born to this couple including Edmon or Edward; John Quincy; Livingston; Henry F.; David Justin; and William Worthington MORRIS, all born between 1855 and 1863. Livingston married Zenella “Nell” Elizabeth NELSON (1864-1953) on 3 Feb 1897 in Fulton Co., IL. Livingston died 25 Oct 1930 in Stockport, IA and is buried in the Spencer Cemetery in that city. I've recovered an old photograph of Glen MORRIS which was taken at the Wilcoxon Studio in Bonaparte, IA in the 1880's. Glen appears to be about one year old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Glen and his family: Glen Wiley MORRIS was b. 28 Dec 1883 in Stockport, IA to parents James Henry MORRIS (1859-1934) and Henrietta or Henritta Hershel KIRKHART or KINKHART (1860-1950) who were married 27 Oct 1881 in Bloomfield, IA. Glen was one of 7 children born to this couple including Harry S.; Leland Luther; Ralph J.; Ray Fisher; Retson Armstrong; Glen Wiley; and Ruby Matilda MORRIS, all born between 1883 and 1898. Glen married Ethel Mamie PINNELL (1884 or 1885-1976) on 29 Nov 1905 in Milton, IA and they had two children including Everett William MORRIS (1906-1970) and Glenn Wiley MORRIS (1919-1944). Glen died 15 Jun 1979 in Cedar Falls, IA and is buried in the Hillside Cemetery in Cedar Falls, IA. His obituary lists a sister as well, Mrs. Ruby REESE of Toledo, OH. I've recovered an old birth announcement for Ruth Eldora GUNN who was born 1 Mar 1914 in Waterloo, IA. The announcement includes a photograph of Ruth's father and older brothers and indicates that Ruth was 7 lbs. and 18 inches long with Black Hair and Blue Eyes. The announcement was sent from Waterloo, IA on 4 Mar 1914 to Mr. & Mrs. J. C. TURNER in Lincoln, NE. I believe that her father was Edwin Sweeney GUNN. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the family: Ruth Eldora GUNN was b. 1 or 11 Mar 1914 in Waterloo, IA to parents Edwin Sweeney GUNN (1867-1948) and Ida Eldora “Dora” ZEDIKER (1875-1944) who were married 13 Nov 1895 in Gadsden, AL. Ruth had two siblings including Lemar Edwin Norval GUNN (1899-1967) and Zellen William Zediker GUNN (1904-1957). Ruth died 13 Jun 1923 in Lincoln, NE and is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, NE. Edwin Sweeney GUNN was b. 3 Aug 1867 in Girard, IL to parents William A. GUNN and Mary Hannah ROUSEY who were married 16 Sept 1866 in Morgan Co., IL. Zellen William Zediker GUNN was b. 10 Aug 1904 in Lincoln, NE and married twice, first to Ruth Alcora HANTHORNE (1909-2001) on 17 Oct 1926 in Valley Co., NE; and second to Lydia HERMAN (b. 1913) on 7 Apr 1934 in Sarpy, NE. Zellen died 27 Jul 1957 in Lincoln, NE and is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, NE. I am hoping to be able to return this birth announcement to family. 1911 Home in Waterloo Iowa
I’ve recovered an old photograph of a house at 306 Reber Avenue in Waterloo, IA. The photograph was taken in 1911, the year the photograph was built. The owner of the house signed as “L. C. H.” sent the photograph to a friend in Marathon, IA on 23 Dec 1911 with a note inviting the friend to the Mason’s Banquet and wishing them a Merry Christmas. I’d love to see the photograph returned to the family of “L. C. H.” so I’m hoping to find someone who is able to identify this individual. I appreciate any assistance that you can provide. There is no studio or location included on the photograph, however, I believe that this is a photograph of Velma Gladys BIRD TETER. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Gladys and her family: Velma Gladys BIRD was b. 18 Aug 1902 in Hampton, IA to parents Calvin Perry BIRD (1869-1945) and Martha “Mattie” Adaline BURNS (1875-1958) who were married 3 Jul 1896 in Franklin Co., IA. Gladys was one of 10 children born to this couple including Barton E.; Lancelot Charles; Stanley James; Velma Gladys; Russell E.; Calvin George; Bernice Pearl; Lewis or Louis Donald; Clara Pauline; and Evelyn Elizabeth BIRD, all born between 1897 and 1917. Gladys married Harry Myron TETER (1900-1982) on 18 Aug 1920 in Waterloo, IA and they had four children including Norma Jean; Herschel Merwin; Dale; and Gladys Marguerite TETER, all born between 1921 and 1936. MASSLICH - WARREN Family Photograph
I've recovered an old photograph which is believed to be of Josephine MASSLICH and her parents Grace WARREN MASSLICH and Herman B. MASSLICH. The photograph was taken at the Blackhawk Studio in West Waterloo, IA and Josephine mailed to her Aunt Jess (Mrs. Nat) COBY in Union City, IN, who I believe is her mother's sister. Josephine thanks her aunt for the Christmas presents, says her mother and father were with she and George for Christmas and are now in New Castle, IN. She wishes her a Merry Christmas and mentions that "this is a rotten picture". Josephine signs the note from "Geo & I and signs Josephine". The photograph was sent on 20 Dec 1913 with Josephine appearing to be in her 20's at the time and her parents likely in their 40's or 50's. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Josephine and her family: Josephine MASSLICH was b. 5 Aug 1889 or 1891 in Union City, IN to parents Herman B. MASSLICH (1867-1948) and Grace B. WARREN (1868-1941) who were married 28 May 1887 in Union City, IN. It appears that Josephine was their only child. Josephine married George Moses “Martin” FENBERG or FENBURG (1872 or 1876-1932) on 12 Jul 1911 in Randolph Co., Indiana and they lived in Iowa after their marriage. Martin was a Theatre Manager in various places throughout the county until his death in 1932. Josephine died 30 Nov 1975 in Indianapolis, IN and is buried in the Union City Cemetery in Union City, IN. Grace B. WARREN was b. 28 Jan 1867 or 1869 in Indiana to parents Harry W. Trafford WARREN (1836-1913) and Carline SIPE (1840-1927) who were married 3 Nov 1858 in Randolph Co., IN. Grace was one of 5 children born to this couple including Herman; Edmund Trafford; Anna T.; Grace; and Jessie W. WARREN, all born between 1855 and 1879. Grace married Herman B. MASSLICH (1867-1948) in 1887 and Grace died 12 Apr 1941 in Indianapolis, IN and is buried in the Union City Cemetery in Union City, IN. Herman or Harman B. MASSLICH was b. 19 Mar 1867 in Darke Co., OH to parents Henry Allen MASSLICH (1839-1901) and Alma (1839-1900). Herman was one of three children born to this couple including siblings, William MASSLICH (b. 1860) and Stella MASSLICH (b. 1870). Herman died 11 Jun 1948 in Union City, IN and is buried in the Union City Cemetery in Union City, IN. Jessie WARREN was b. 29 Jul 1879 in Saratoga, IN to the same parents as Grace B. WARREN and married twice, first to John Adam VOGT (1879-1957) in 1898, and second to Nathan COBY (1881-1946) on 4 Jul 1909 in Randolph Co., IN. Jessie died in 1971 and is buried in the Union City Cemetery in Union City, IN. Howard is identified as 8 months old at the time the photograph was taken, and Alyce is 2 years and 4 months old at the time. The photograph was sent to Gordon SEWELL in Waverly, IA. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the children and their family: Howard Curtis SHEPARD was b. 11 Oct 1912 in Janesville, IA to Howard Simeon SHEPARD (1885-1945) and Anna Mae SEWELL (1885-1971). Howard had four siblings, Delbert “Dell” Winfield SHEPARD (1906-1969); Alice Mae SHEPARD RANDALL (1911-1990); and Bonnie Y. SHEPARD (1915-1916); and Betty J. SHEPARD STRUBLE (1923-1993). Howard married twice, first to Margaret Violet Helen HANSEN (1917-1999) on 16 Feb 1936 in Waterloo, IA and they had a daughter Martha or Marsha Jane SHEPARD FALZBOT (1936-1996) and one other daughter. His second wife was Elizabeth “Betty” L. VIVONE (1912-1998). Howard died 25 Apr 1996 in Marshalltown, IA and is buried in the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, IA. Alice Mae SHEPARD was b. 13 Feb 1911 in Janesville, IA to the same parents and married Glen Alexander MARSH (1911-1996) on 10 Dec 1931 in Waterloo, IA and they had a son, Carlyle Curtis MARSH (1933-2000) and they later divorced. Then on 4 Apr 1964 she married Ralph Alfred RANDALL (1895-1972) in Seattle, WA. Alice died in Auburn, WA on 28 Feb 1990 and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn, WA. Her obituary lists her surviving family members including a son who is unnamed and living in Auburn, WA; a brother in Des Moines, IA; and a sister in Clarksville, IN. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Edna KNUDSEN which was taken at the Petersen Studio in Cedar Falls, IA in the early 1900's. Edna appears to be about 4 years old at the time it was taken. Someone has written "Distant" on the back so I'm guessing this refers to her being a distant relative to the person who was in possession of the photograph. I’ve “rescued” two JOHNSON Family photographs both from Cedar Falls, IA. The first is a photograph of Albert JOHNSON who is identified as “Mary’s Brother”. The second photograph is one of “Arnold” who is identified as the oldest son of Christine JOHNSON. The second photograph was taken at the Austin Studio in Cedar Falls also most likely in the 1900’s when Arnold was just an infant. I've "rescued" an old photograph of G. A. UHRIG of Marysville, MT which appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's. G. A. UHRIG appears to be in his 60's at the time the photograph was taken and he is pictured with an unidentified group including a woman who might be a wife, about his age, and three others, two men and one woman, all likely in their 20's to 40's. Based on limited research and thanks to an area researcher I have gathered the following information regarding G. A. UHRIG and his family: Gustave A. UHRIG was b. 23 Dec 1858 in Buffalo or Bennington, NY to parents Joseph UHRIG (1821-1901) and Eva Barbara Mary MARKERT (1823-1906) who were married 15 Jul 1852 in Boston, MA. Gustave was one of 9 children born to this couple including, Christiana; Joseph; Albert; Gustave A.; Mary Louisa; Mary Margaret; Caroline H.; Charles Henry; and John UHRIG, all born between 1853 and 1868. Gustave married twice, first to Mary Jane HANNA or HANNER (b. 1860) on 12 Nov 1878 in Black Hawk, IA and they had three children including, Clara Amanda; Bertha; and Georgia Ann or Annie UHRIG, all born between 1879 and 1886. His second marriage was to Marie “Mamie” S. LABROSSE or NELSON (1872-1939) on 27 Jan 1893 in Helena, MT and they had a son, Joseph Richard UHRIG (1912-1990). Gustave died 28 Nov 1928 in Portland, OR and he is buried in the River View Cemetery in Portland, OR. His obituary lists a daughter, Mrs. James BORMANN of Jackson, MI; a son Joseph UHRIG of Jackson, MI; a daughter Mrs. Caroline SCHULTZ of Harrisburg, PA; a daughter Mrs. Mary REEB of Walland, Ontario, Canada; and a daughter Mrs. Clara KAPPER of Port Colbourne, Ontario, Canada. Gustave’s first daughter Clara’s first marriage was to Edmund Julius MEIHOFER or MEYHOEFFER or MEYHOEFER who she married in 1902 in Nicollet Co. MN and they had a daughter, Gertrude Lenore “May” in 1904. They divorced in 1908. Clara’s daughter May married sometime before 1926 to Vinton McKinley BECKSTROM in MN and both died in Corcoran, MN having had three children including, Donald; Corrine Clarice; and Vinton Guy BECKSTROM all born between 1926 and 1936.Vinton BECKSTROM and his wife Mary have two daughters, Kristin BECKSTROM RADCLIFF and Lauren BECKSTROM. Clara UHRIG MEYHOEFER married a second time to Eduard ROSEMEYER aka Guy Oscar BASYE whose name was changed after his Mother died and he was adopted out to the BASYE Family. Gustave’s daughter Georgia married Donald PHILLIPS in 1904 and they were divorced by 1910 when she married her second husband, James BORMANN. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Edwinna COULTER which was taken at the Veatch Studio in Cedar Falls, IA sometime in the 1890's with Edwinna appearing to be in her 20's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Edwinna and her family: Edwinna Gay BRYSON was b. 3 Aug 1871 in Osage, IA to parents Alexander Miller BRYSON (b. 1842 in Thompsonville, CT-1899) and Carthagenia Hamlin ALLEN (b. 1844 in Washington Co., AR-1916). Edwinna was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Ivanona May; Edwinna Gay; Cassius Allen; Boyd Ray; and Ralph Jay BRYSON, all born between 1867 and 1882. Edwinna married Cary Goodwin COULTER (b. 1869) on 27 Aug 1896 in Iowa Falls, IA and together they had three children, Joseph Hugh COULTER (1897-1897); Theodore Bryson COULTER (1899-1979); and Cary Edwin COULTER (1910-1958). The family lived in Yuma, AZ from 1910 through 1914 according to records. Edwinna died 24 Jan 1948 in Los Angeles Co., CA and is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA. INGALLS Family Photograph
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Ethel INGALLS which was taken at the C. Sorenson Studio in Cedar Falls, IA. Ethel is an infant at the time the photograph was taken and she is identified as the "daughter of Henry INGALLS". Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Ethel and her family: Ethel May INGALLS was b. 10 or 12 Jun 1888 in Grundy Co., IA to parents Henry Laverne or Levi INGALLS (1862-1902) and Alma Sarah BURNS (1868-1933). Ethel was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Ethel May; Cora J.; Ruth E.; Hazel; and Merten INGALLS, all born between 1888 and 1898. Ethel married Harry Miles PHILLIPS (1876-1952) on 30 Mar 1910 in New Hartford, IA and they had 6 children including, Paul; Harriett Alma; Hugh Martin; Winifred; Mary Jean; and Baby Boy PHILLIPS or PHILLIPPS, all born between 1911 and 1921. Ethel died 20 Aug 1986 in Lena or Freeport, IL and she is buried in Cedarville Cemetery in Cedarville, IL.
