Dave Sheff 23 10
All, My father, Dick Ostman, was David Sheff's chief mechanic when he had his 23 from 1963-65. My Dad was trying to find the current owner of Dave's car, but could not recall the chassis number. He passed away in June 1998 without ever finding the car. The black & white image is from Bridgehampton, Memorial Day weekend 1964, with my Dad warming the car up. The two color images are from Lime Rock summer of 1963. I have more pictures from back in the day. I will post them after I get my scanner up & running again. Does anyone out there know where the car is now? Cheers, Rick Ostman

Lotus 23 on BaT 5
The following Lotus 23B was recently listed on BaT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962-lotus-23b/ I realize the AM123 indicates the chassis was built by Arch Motors but I'm curious about the lack of the indication of the 23-S-xxx number. Are there instances of Lotus 23's without the 23-S-xxx number? Thank you. Brian

Don't forget the crack-checks! 5
Hi All, thought I'd share the following with you as this could have been nasty. Have just been treating my 23 to it's regular 24 month new caliper and master cylinder seals all round ( marvellous stuff Castrol SRF but tough on the seals) and while the calipers were off went to do a dye-penetrant crack test on the caliper mounts. Turned out I didn't need the dye, just a quick look with a torch.... Three cracks on one original caliper mount, all impossible to see when assembled. Guess I shouldn't be suprised on a near 60 year old highly porous sand casting subjected to modern brake pad loads, but still, quote sobering to see. Lotus rule! Nick

CV joints 7
Today I heard about a local 23 racer who is changing his rubber donuts to CV joints. He says it is legal in our area. I don't know for sure. What is happening in that regard in your areas? Dean Collins

rubber donuts 5
Howdy Great L23 Oracle of Knowledge I had both my Lotus 23 rubber donuts come apart and bought some replacements from DBE. It was a good thing I had the axle savers, although they were also destroyed. I expected the new DBE donuts to look new with perfectly black rubber, but after unwrapping them (wrapped in newspaper) the surface looks off color and the metal temporary outer bands look like they were sand blasted. Is this normal? Where do all you racers purchase standard size Lotus 23 donuts that can handle the abuse of racing? Thanks for any suggestions, Don
