Travellers series 21/22
Hi all, Sorry for the delay in sorting out a travellers series for this coming year. The plan is as below. We've got a very narrow window in 2022 to finish the series. From youths in April to end of May is exam purdah so very limited on options hence why I've added the YDSC event at very short notice. NS1 Hartlepool 29er GP2 18/19th September NS2 YDSC 6/7th November RYA NE Big One NS3 Rutland 29er GP 4/5th December NS4 RTYC Sprints March. NS5 Dalgety Bay sprints TBC NS6 Either East Lothian or Largo Bay in June. I know the YDSC is very short notice but we need to give out the Northern champs trophy before the year end and it's a cracking event. Also struggling to find other events in the first half of next year apart from the 3 above. The Largs One Design is too early. 4 to count from 6 would be the intention but with Hartlepool being canned and YDSC very last minute that's perhaps tricky? Note that there will be no 29er class at the RYAS WInter Champs so it doesn't clash with Rutland. If anyone's goy any other brainwaves let me know. Bear

Sad news 2
Hi all, Cathy, my wife and Suzie's mum passed away last Saturday after a long battle with cancer. I think Suzie's just about to message the 29er sailors to let them know and we thought it was best if I told the parents as well. It's easier if folk know we reckon, saves us both the hard bit of telling folk that haven't heard what's happened to Cathy. Many of you will know already of course. The funeral is on Tuesday so Suzie won't be at the Largs that day. She's hoping to sail on the other days, that's definitely what Cathy would have wanted, but we'll just need to see how it goes. No replies necessary I should add. Bear

Registration crew 14
Hi all, Can we have some volunteers to man the registration desk on Saturday and first thing Sunday. 10-5 on Saturday, break it into 1-2 hours slots. Most will be done electronically so it's just really handing out goodie bags and answering queries. Could do with someone being the lead person that will be able to access a laptop in case any manual entering is needed. They just need to be at the club not on desk all day. Bear

Large nationals late entry fee after 13th June
Just a wee reminder there's a late entry fee after 13th June. Sitting at 31 entries just now and it's capped at 70 and there's a definite expectation that we'll hit that cap! Bear https://29eruk.ourclubadmin.com/mini-event.php?event=301

Entry form and NOR for 29/30th Sprints at RTYC 7
Hi all, RTYC Sprints 29/30th May - closing date Tuesday 25th May!! Entry now live for the sprints at the Tay on the 29/30th of May. Sorry for delay, I've been getting my head round web collect, the Tay's not used it for event entry before. Also attached NOR for the event and parental consent documents. Please print out forms and send with each sailor. It got too complicated trying to do two sailors via one entry form. First gun not before 11:55 on Saturday I've asked if helm and crew are members of the association, if you've not already joined I'd encourage you to do so. The results for the northern series will only include class members and you'll also need to be members to do the nationals etc so might as well join now. If we have 30 odd members from the north in the association it makes it much easier to argue for national events further north!! https://www.29er.org.uk/membership/ If anyone spots any errors please let me know. Northern Series 2 RTYC 29/30th May
The RTYC is running a sprints weekend at the Tay on the 29/30th of May. It's going require manning by parents so we'll send out a list of the roles to fill nearer the time. Exact start time to be confirmed, just thought I'd let folk know. I thought I'd floated it as a date already but I don't think I have. Largs will be NS3 and if anyone's got any idea of a 4th event let me know. We were intending going to ELYC but the feeling is that the that venue will still be a bit challenging for the newcomers given the lack of sailing over the winter. Bear

Northern committee 3
Hi all, We need some new parents to get involved in helping run the class in the north. Susan, Graham and Donald are taking on training coordinator roles at their clubs. Andy Roberston is on the national committee doing the Rolling Ranking role and David Ibbotson has stayed on for an extra year to help set up the Largs nationals. Colin is doing NOR, SI etc. We could do with a treasurer, which is a very easy role. It's a nightmare swapping this one about so someone who's kid is 15 would be ideal. There's only about 5 payments a year so it's a dawdle once the account is set up. Social media/publicity rep. We'll also need a big gang on to help with Largs and make it a success. David's setting it up but can't be at the event. So basically everyone needs to get involved. Ideally match folk with their skills so have a think and ideally have a word with me tomorrow. Bear

29er Northern champs/RYAS 29er winter champs 2
Hi all, Just thought I'd better highlight a few things re this event. Firstly just to warn folk it's academy style racing!! Matt doesn't have the resources to make all the different class events proper regattas with race committee etc and also DBSC is still in Level 3. It's aimed as a chance for all the boats in each class to all get together for some fun racing. It's a Haribos event!! Not the usual Winters trophies etc. And definitely no protests. However we've taken the opportunity to make it our Northern Champs as well because it's the last possible event in 2020 that we can use the trophy for. It would be great to get it handed out. It should have been handed out at the NE Youth champs at YDSC in November but that was canned. So there's a cracking trophy up for grabs as well as some sweets. It won't form part of the overall Northern Series. It would be great to see as many boats as possible at it. There's already 7 on the entry list, I reckon we'll be somewhere between 11-15 boats, fingers crossed. It's definitely open to any boats from south of the border as well and it would be great to have some visitors to the Scottsh fleet https://www.rya.org.uk/racing-events/ryascotland-christmas-regatta-series-2020/Pages/enter-event.aspx?eventid=123 Bear

Training - any west coast parents willing to be the training lead for any west coast activity. 3
Hi all, We've got a couple of local training groups forming at Dalgety Bay and the Tay with Susan Hopkins, Graham Bull and myself being the coordinators at those clubs. It would be great to get a wee group going over on the west coast so that the sailors can do as much local training as possible given the way the restrictions are going. There's also a group at Derwent training with Josh. We've potentially got:- Rebecca/Sarah - using class boat at Tay to do first set of academies and then? Robbie/Fergus Max/Emma Morven and Suzie are half/half west/east Also got a couple of boats at Venachar as well, don't know what their plans are for the winter Anyway does any out of the west coast crew fancy taking on the lead role? Susan, Graham and I having a Zoom call on Tuesday night just to chat through where we're all at so if anyone's interested give me a email/buzz. We'll be getting a list of potential coaches together that might be of use etc so it's really just to pool our information together and make sure we're helping to get as much on the water time as we can for all the boats. We've got 15 active boats just within Scotland so got enough to form local groups for the first time which is fab. Bear David Sturrock Angus Heathers Ltd. Matthew & Nathan - 29er Academies 8
Hi Gerry, yes I'm assuming the RYAS plan is for the sailors to sail at their nearest club that's hosting an academy which in your case would be the Tay. Should be able to leave the boat in between times I reckon, dinghy park is pretty full but we should be able to squeeze in a boat or two. In the past the club's been quite happy to support the class by allowing visiting 29ers to come along over the winter and get rib cover. I'll need to check if that's still the case at the moment. Will need to wait until the latest guidelines come out though and see if any updates on RYAS guidance to clubs. Hopefully the youth exemption for organised two household training will stay in place! Fingers crossed. B. yahoo.com@groups.io> wrote:

Derwent skiff regatta
There's now a waiting list for this event, they've reached their cap. If anyone's wanting to go still and not already entered please put your name on the waiting lists asap. No guarantees but if any extra spaces they will be allocated by position on the waiting list. They've a meeting this Thursday and I assume at that point they decide what to do re cap. After that I reckon any extra will be a definite no. Also for those already going are there any folk with two family members going who could man ribs. We need a couple of ribs crewed by visitors. Derwent entry and class association membership 3
Hi all, Entry for the Derwent Reservoir event is now open. There was talk from the club a few days ago of a cap on entries so if you're going I'd advise entering sooner rather than later. https://www.drsc.co.uk/event/skiff-open-meeting It's the first event of the Northern Series. To take part in the series or in any class training that we'll be organising you need to be a member of the UK 29er class association. Membership is now on a rolling 12 month basis so if you join now that will take you through to after your sailors last nationals. In the past it would run out at the end of December and so there was a reason for not joining straight away unless doing the Rutland GP but that's now gone. Please join up!! We've had a lot of help from the class financially from the last couple of committees. They paid for Niall Myant-Best to come up and do a training camp at Tummel two years ago which was fantastic and were going to fund transition coaching at Tummel Week last year so we definitely get a return. If we can find a club and a weekend that suits Niall will come up again. More importantly I reckon we'll also have at least 30+ Scottish members this coming year and that helps to make the case for having a good proportion of the events as accessible as possible for northern sailors. We've also got the nationals next summer in Largs and again if we can show big increases in memberships it helps us to justify the class's decision to have either a nationals/youths or GP in Scotland every year. https://29eruk.ourclubadmin.com/index_v2.php Bear

Academy sign ups and missing trapeze harness 3
Firstly, on behalf of the coaches, can I please ask folk to sign up as soon as they know they're definitely doing an academy. I know it means the money leaves your bank a bit more in advance but it's very tricky for the coaches to plan their lives when Matt/Kate only get sign up numbers with 12 days to go. This year RYAS will hopefully need extra coaches because we've got lots of new boats. If we give them more notice they'll have more chance to get the coaches that will do the best job rather that just who's available at short notice. RYAS will try and run the newbie groups with a maximum ratio of three 29ers per coach boat but that needs as much notice as possible for getting both coaches and ribs organised. Largs is now live for the 19/20th September so please sign up asap if you're going. Also did any one end up with a Zhik trapeze harness in their bag after the 29er taster session at the Tay earlier this month. I'd hoped it would turn up today but can't find it at the club so just checking if anyone picked it up by mistake. Bear

29er for sale
I know there's folk looking for 29ers at the moment. There's one in Wales going to come on the market very soon. 2119. It’s got 2 sets of sails, 2 sets of foils one ali and one GRP. Combi trailer, good top and bottom covers, 5/10 cocoon cover, rig bag, boat breaker, plenty of new bits of string, new padded Ovi toe straps, spare forestay and trap wires. Looking for 4.5K but suspect would be open to offers over 4K. Also couple of newer ones with new deck layout from 7K. 2882 and 2826. Suspect they'll just have one suit of sails though. B.

Welsh invitational training Pwllheli 5/6th September
Will Willets/Merion Edwards are organising a 2nd season boat 29er weekend at Pwllheli on the 5/6th September and they're wondering if any of the experienced Scottish sailors want to join in. Six boats confirmed from Wales so far and they can take at least another 4. Rowan Edwards coaching, think plan is coaching/lots of short sharp races. £50/sailor tops. Ping me a message if you need contact details. Bear
