Welcome to CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO on Groups.io as CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO (note: hyphens, not underscores)
Welcome to the new home for CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO as CAD-CAM-EDM_DRO on Groups.io. Below is the farewell message posted to Yahoo. The time when Yahoo will no longer accept new content for this Yahoo group is 28 October, only two days away. This group is being transerred to a new group on the Groups.io web site and is already in the transfer queue. This message is being posted because it has become apparent that the transfer will not complete before the deadline for new posts on Yahoo. Indeed it may be several weeks before the transfer completes as the transfer queue has grown dramatically over the past week. An archive has been captured in case something goes wrong, but that only preserves content, not subscriptions. Because of the delay, I have decided to go ahead and announce that the Yahoo group is closed and to enable new subscriptions and posts to the Groups.io version of this forum. If you wish to participate before Groups.io sends you a welcome email, you can register manually on the web or via email. Otherwise you should be automatically subscribed to the new forum on Groups.io once the transfer is complete, and an email will be sent to confirm your subscription or to not subscribe if you do not wish to join. The web link to view messages in chronological order on the new forum is: https://groups.io/g/CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO/messages You can also view in a format threaded by topic here: https://groups.io/g/CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO/topics If you prefer to interact with the forum via email, the addresses to use are: Post: CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO@groups.io Subscribe: CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO+subscribe@groups.io Unsubscribe: CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO+unsubscribe@groups.io Group Owner: CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO+owner@groups.io Help: CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO+help@groups.io Once the group is transferred, I will contact previous owners and moderators to ask if they wish to participate in similar roles on the new forum. If the number who accept is insufficient to assure the future of the group, new owners and moderators will be solicited. Hope to see you on the new group. Regards, Steve Stallings www.PMDX.com

CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO transfer process has finished
4
Groups.io has notified me that the transfer process has completed. It looks like the messages, files, and photos all made it OK. Initially 7411 subscribers were being sent notifications that they were being subscribed to the new group. As expected, some people do not wish to continue being part of the group and declined to be subscribed. This is normal because many people joined on a whim and have moved on to other things but had not previously bothered to unsubscribe. Hopefully this group will continue to thrive.

Bridgeport CNC needs a new home
13
Bridgeport Series 1 Vertical Mill running on Linux EMC2 CNC. This mill had been retrofitted with a Bandit CNC and because it was no longer supported, I converted it to run on a PC using Linux EMC2 CNC as an operating system. All documentation is included. Also has Acu-rite X/Y axis glass scales. 42" X 9 3/4" table. Bejur Spray Mister Ball Screw slides on all axis. 2 Hp, 3 phase motor I bought this mill in 2005 (or there about) and as a hobby machinist the mill has not been used very much, usually making myself tooling. Weighs approximately 2000 lbs. For photos they are available on Google MyDrive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dTATMW9DM6REIOg-c9RihZbmx4Uw8YnG?usp=share_link Engraving jig with motor is included. EDM for small hole setup that I fabricated is included (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5WZqYl_aZ8. Set of Erickson Quick Change interfacing collets. Many end mills and saws Boring bar head Located New Windsor, MD. Is anyone interested? jensor4@...

Manual for Starrett 2700-Series Digital Indicators -- Somewhat Off-Topic
6
Does anyone on the list happen to have a manual for the Starrett 2700-series digital indicators? I have a 2740-1, 2-inch indicator, but am uncertain how to access some of its features. As I do not belong to any of the general machinist groups, I thought it worth asking here. Bruce, KG6OJI

New to group; DIY EDM Sinker...is Water OK for DIelectric?
4
Finally getting around to trying to build a sinker EDM. One thing that has always giving me pause is the use of oil dielectric (smell, messy, fumes). I recently watched a video (Andy's Machines) where he used DI water and a coffee filter. I am not looking for absolute precision work; just general hobby stuff and experimenting. Are any of those out there who have build their own sinker machines running water? Thanks in advance.

New to group; DIY EDM Sinker...is Water OK for D Ielectric?
2
Martin, You're making a lot of sense. Wire edm's use DI water. There might be a rust issue for sinker tool holders. There might be some electrical shorting issues that dielectric fluid foils too. The surface contact area is different between wire and graphite electrodes. The wire is wearing and the gap is held consistent whereas the graphite... I don't know... You've got a great question. Somebody smarter than me must have the answer. Bill

Solid V Wheel bearings
6
Hi, My name is Scott. I joined this group to ask a couple questions regarding bearings as I ran into an odd scenario over this past month. Bearings deforming while sitting around doing nothing. I have a laser burner with Solid V Wheels. I upgraded the z-axis to one with a manual adjusting knob making it easier to put the laser at the right spot. I let the thing set there for about a month and when I turned it on the other night, that axis was frozen in place. I had to manually force the axis to move, but when the wheels rotate 360 degrees, the bearings lock in place. So I swapped out the bearings for ones that didn't have this problem and the next morning the bearings had developed the same but not as severe condition. Has anyone heard of this happening before? Are there bearings out there with plastic or nylon ball bearings that will deform should they be holding up a bit more weight than what they were designed for?

Damage to CNC machines
Hi all, I have realized over the years that no matter how fast and efficient CNC machines is, they’re not infallible. They develop problems and need maintenance just like any other type of machine or tool. And like any other tool, there are certain things you can do that might inadvertently damage these machines. Unfortunately for me, I have focused more on the definite steps you can take to keep them in good working order. Can anyone share with me some steps that lead to damage. Thank you Kofi

EMC, Polar Coordinates CNC, ROBOT Arm Control?
2
I have been following this discussion with interest. Two years ago, before I started working with my cnc mill, I purchased two robot arms with the notion of making a robotic machining workcell. EMC looked like an interesting tool to use to control both the mill and the robot loader. I now realize that this was not a practical project for me, but I still have the robot arms and I would like to control them somehow. So, without getting too far off-topic, I am curious to know if anyone in this group has implemented EMC with a robot arm (Polar Coordinates) and if they have any links to share on this subject. -Eric

X carve control and gcode recommendations
2
My robotics club has a Grizzly G8689 mini mill converted to CNC (G540 and MACH3, d2nc for CAM) and recently acquired an X-Carve unit. The X-carve has a GRBL (arduino based) controller and needs gcode different than we are used to. We have demo'd MeshCam, but either we don't know it well (probably) or it isn't powerful enough to give us control over the gcode generation. Wondering if we can find a free CAM generator for this unit ... recommendations? It doesnt like D2NC gcode. OR maybe drop a TB6600 controller system in it and use MACH??? it does have limit switches, so I'd continue to use them. Thanks so much, Chuck

WET Re: [CAD-CAM-EDM-DRO] Damage to CNC machines

Hi Kpfi & all: One of the things I have found to watch is how much oil isin the coolent. If a way line cracks or breaks the collent will have a much higher oil content before long. Check to see if your way oiler is way down or using a lot more oil the normal. This is one of the problems I have came on> Shut down in Michigan USA Bill Thomas On 2020-09-22 05:26, Kofi & Mimi in Ghana via groups.io wrote: Hi all, I have realized over the years that no matter how fast and efficient CNC machines is, they’re not infallible.
