Do You Have Famous Ancestors?

Do you have famous ancestors? Diane and I would love for you to share your information with this group. To make this easier we are suspending the rule of only discussing members of your direct line. If you are a Smith but your famous ancestor is a Jones that is OK for this discussion. We want you to feel free to join in and let us all enjoy some interesting stories. Who will be first? Jim and Diane

I am a cousin, through the Cralle family, of Armistead Lindsay Long BGen CSA
I am a cousin, through the Cralle family, of Armistead Lindsay Long B Gen CSA. Armistead and his brothers Burgess Mason Long and Leroy William Long survived the Civil war. They were born in Campbell County, Virginia. The family immigrated to Union County, Kentucky. His father, Armistead Long II, returned to Virginia after their mother, Calista Rosser Cralle, died. Crafton/Poole - Searching for information on descendants of siblings Edward P. Poole, Nora E. Poole, Sarah Elizabeth Poole and Carrie Noella Poole
...children of Thomas Edward Poole and Martha Newton Crafton, born between 1875 and 1883. I have nothing on Edward other than b. Jan 1875. I have and Nora's line w/Felix Watts to a male Watts, b 1905 in Crewe, but nothing other than that. I have Sarah's line w/Archer Dunnavant to Hahn in Ohio, but nothing past 1930s. I also have Carrie Noella being born abt 1883 and also marrying Felix Watts after Nora's death in 1905, but no children. Any help with more descendants would be appreciated. Perhaps connecting with/learning of living (or more recent) descendants could help bring more info on those passed. Thanks!

Welcome to the VA-Lunenburg Group
2
Welcome to Groups.io, our new home for genealogical discussions. This is an exciting time with a very impressive website and the opportunity to rekindle our communications and, perhaps, revive research that has been set aside for a time. Diane and I want to encourage you to make us of this group with your brick walls, successes, questions and whatever answers you may have for others' queries. To begin with, introductions are encouraged, including some history about yourself etc. If we can feel like a "family" we might get more out of being here. We definitely do not want to make this such a strict environment that you are discouraged from entering or starting discussions. We want you to enjoy being a part of this group and be glad you joined in the first place. If you have other group connections where you may spread the word about us that will be great as well. Looking forward to hearing from you all, Jim "Pops" Jackson and Diane Sowden

Lunenburg Wilsons
Dear groupers, I'm searching for information about a family of Wilsons who lived in Lunenburg County, VA in the early to mid-1700s. They were closely associated with knots of Separatist Baptists in the area of the Meherrin River, Reedy Creek and Bluestone (which I gather later ended up in Mecklenburg County). There was a meeting house designated as Wilson's meeting house at one point. The Wilson family I'm related to left Lunenburg County somewhere between 1760 and 1770 to escape religious persecution and would have sold their lands then--most likely to other Separatists. Those land sales are what I'm focused on right now. The given names I'm most interested in are John, William, Thomas, and maybe Solomon. If possible I would like the seller's name, the buyer's name, location of the land and when sold. Who has access to abstracts of that period? Could he or she do a lookup? Gratefully, Margaret Wilson Arthur (seeking Wilsons, Waynes, Legettes, Parrotts, Byrds, Garners and Jordans)

Saying Thanks To Our Front-Line Workers
5
First of all, To all of you who are involved in the "front lines" of this corona virus war - Thank You for all you are doing. Without you we would be in dire straits. Secondly, Diane and I thought it would be a good thing to share what is happening in your locations as far as showing appreciation to everyone involved in fighting the spread of this horrendous pandemic that has plagued the world. Please feel free to share what your community is doing in that regard. We have all seen the firefighters gathered to applaud the health workers. Diane says that she and her neighbors stand outside their doors and clap for the health workers. She suggests singing (to the tune of "Happy Birthday") the following: Thank you very much, Thank you very much, Thank you front line workers, Thank you very much. What ideas do you have? What have you witnessed in your communities? We are together in this and shall come out of it stronger. Jim "Pops" Jackson and Diane Sowden

VA-Lunenburg
My ancestors are McLaughlin, Cox, Winn/Wynn. My grandmother was Olivia Mae McLaughlin, daughter of John R McLaughlin and Rosa Belle Cox. I think my 4th g-grandfather was George McLaughlin, born about 1710 in Scotland. I am interested in chatting with kinfolk. -- Cynthia Hall Grossman 321 N Rectory Street, #403 Pittsboro, NC 27312 (919) 542-6444
