Hello Group!! I was wondering if anyone could tell me the History of Hewey Creek in Mecklenburg County? It flows under I-85 just north of Bracey, Virginia. The reason I ask is my brick wall: John Henry Hewey Sr. John H Hewey Sr was born about 1827 in Virginia according to the 1850 Granville Co., NC Census. He married Margaret Daniel (daughter of Martin Daniel Jr and Avarilla Yancey) in December of 1849. By 1850, they are living in Granville Co., NC. This is the only time I find John H Hewey Sr in any Census records. I am only able to find his wife Margaret Hewey in the 1880 Census as widowed. I have no idea where they were in 1860 or 1870. The death certificate of their son, John Henry Hewey Jr (changed spelling to Heuay) states his Father was born in Pennsylvania. Any help anyone can provide would be amazing. Thanks in advance!! I have a DNA link to George Newton and am attempting to link him forward to my 3rd great grandfather, Robert Henry Newton. Hence, I am tracing all of Geo and Mary’s children. Possible son of George & Mary (Riggs) Newton I know that George and Mary had a son named William, but I need better than censuses to prove the link. I believe that when George and Mary moved to North Carolina in the late 1700s, William remained in Virginia. What would make better proof is if I could find that George had sold his VA land to William. Short of that I’d like other valid links. Sarah married Royall Lockettt (need date), John married Martha Moody (date?), Frank married Isabella Elam on January 30, 1849 in Charlotte County. That son was my gr grandfather, Periander C. Newton Periander’s 5th son was Perry C, my grandfather. And to my question: How do I document George’s father, grandfather and great grandfather? Henry I immigrated in mid 1600s to Rappa. Virginia Henry II born in Rappa/Essex Virginia between 168? to 174? Henry III sold land in Essex VA and moved to Mecklenburg (at the time it was probably still Lunenburg). It appears that three Newton men (brothers or cousins) settled in Mecklenburg on adjoining pieces of land. Henry III is probably the father of my ancestor George Newton. I think this because of land records and his will. Is there another researcher who can help fill in gaps in the NEWTON history? Julia Ryden juryden@...

First of all, To all of you who are involved in the "front lines" of this corona virus war - Thank You for all you are doing. Without you we would be in dire straits. Secondly, Diane and I thought it would be a good thing to share what is happening in your locations as far as showing appreciation to everyone involved in fighting the spread of this horrendous pandemic that has plagued the world. Please feel free to share what your community is doing in that regard. We have all seen the firefighters gathered to applaud the health workers. Diane says that she and her neighbors stand outside their doors and clap for the health workers. My family tree includes several Hatchell/Hatsell names. Specifically, in 1802, my great grandfather Archibald/Archer Cox married Mary Polly Hatchell, daughter of (James) Lewis Hatchell. I am looking for the name of Lewis’s wife and Polly’s mother. I found that Archer and Polly sued a Nancy Hatchell over her father’s estate. It seems this Nancy could be Polly’s stepmother. Archer and Polly named their first daughter Mary Thurman Cox, and I am wondering who she was named after too. If you can offer any advice or info regarding this subject, I would be most grateful to receive it.

I have been able to trace the Allgood family in Mecklenburg County, Virginia to my 4th Great GrandFather, Moses O. Allgood (1726-1795). His birthplace is unknown, but he shows up in the 1782 census. My research indicates that this Allgood line came to the colonies from Fen Drayton in Cambridgeshire, England through Northumberland County, Virginia between 1657 and 1684 (this information is not confirmed yet). I welcome input and questions.
