Липкий Resources for new PC800 owners 4
Howdy everyone, I figured since we've had a resurgence in interest in the PC800 in the last year and many wonderful new people joining the two wheel Tupperware party, we should post up a collection of links and info that will be useful for you to find what you need quickly. The first and most important is the "search" function that is available on the Messages tab at the Groups.IO iPCRC portal: https://groups.io/g/ipcrc/messages Look in the upper right corner. Type in a few keywords there and you'll find all the messages related to that. I've found a huge treasure trove of information there from 20+ years of PC800 wisdom. If you need to go farther back in the archives than what we have here (it goes back to 2000 here), the old PC800 mailing list that started in 1994 is additionally included here: https://pc800archive.douglasvanbossuyt.com/ (note: nothing going to Groups.IO is being backed up at this point. I haven't gotten together the time to modify the PHP code on the archive site to do that and I haven't wanted to dedicate the funds to have Tim Dearborn who Leland paid to write and maintain the original code to do the work). We have a very large files section on the Groups.IO site that collects files dating back to 2000 and perhaps earlier related to the PC: https://groups.io/g/ipcrc/files There are a *lot* of good technical documents in there that I haven't even discovered yet. We've got a very large photos and albums section on the Groups.IO site with photos going back into the early 2000s: https://groups.io/g/ipcrc/photos It's a bit disorganized thanks to the transfer from Yahoo Groups when they shut down but there is a lot of good info in there. We also have some old databases available here: https://groups.io/g/ipcrc/database that contain a variety of info. I don't think anyone has done anything with the databases in about ten years though. There is Leland's Directory of All Known Honda Pacific Coast Web Sites: https://www.douglasvanbossuyt.com/directory-of-all-known-honda-pacific-coast-pc800-web-sites-in-the-universe/ that I'm maintaining for him while he's on his final Iron Butt ride. Beyond that, there are many PC800-related videos on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=pc800 There are many how-to videos that walk you through various maintenance procedures. And if there isn't a video for what you want to do yet, then I suggest you make one and let us know so we can catalog it here. Or if you request it, next time I do that maintenance task on my bike, I'll record what I do so it's available. There also is the big list of links and information that I've built over the years: https://www.douglasvanbossuyt.com/personal/hobbies/motorcycle/honda-pacific-coast-pc800-links-and-information/ I've tried to capture and catalog all the good info I've seen come across the iPCRC and that I've learned the hard way in a decade of PC ownership. We have a variety of manuals and parts files available thanks to Leland's efforts that are now available here: https://www.douglasvanbossuyt.com/honda-pacific-coast-pc800-manuals-and-parts-files/ There is a PDF copy of the manual on the manual's main page which is higher resolution than the JPEGs showing up on the individual pages. That's something I need to investigate with my website to see why the resolution has recently lowered. It didn't used to be that bad. There are a bunch of registries and lists related to the PC800: https://www.douglasvanbossuyt.com/honda-pacific-coast-pc800-registries-and-lists/ And of course there's the big PC800 ride that Leland hosts most years: https://www.douglasvanbossuyt.com/the-great-pacific-coast-highway-pacific-coast-motorcycle-year-2xxx-motorcycle-ride/ I'm maintaining the website while Leland is away but it's still very much his ride that he leads. Does anyone have other websites to add to the list of useful places to look for PC800 information? Cheers, Douglas in Monterey

1998 PC800 for sale 17
Hello everyone. I have a 1998 PC800 for sale. 41,827 miles. I've put a couple of hundred miles on it. All body panels in very good shape, just faded. Brakes and clutch have been drained, filled with new fluid and bled. New tires with less than 200 miles on them. A little rough running when cold but runs fine after warming up. I also have the VT1100 final drive to install. I live in East Idaho. I'm also posting in it on Craigslist. More pictures available upon request. Just not riding it much and no sense having it sit around when someone else can enjoy it. $1000. 208-360-1096 Thanks for looking. Paul

Corbin fitment
I have seen a couple posts about fitment issues with the Corbin seats but no answer how to fit it! The front seat fits with no issues but I can’t get the holes in the rear to align. Any suggestions? 1990 bike… seat came of a 1989 model… 🤷‍♂️

Left Muffler Cover 2
I have had a few older bikes in my past but not one with such a limited run! Parts are very tough to acquire it seems... I sourced a rear taillight that I did not realize was busted when I bought it and a real left turn indicator... Ebay and Google are my friends! I now am looking for a Left muffler cover. If you have one please hit me up! Good to be back on this bike! Thanks so much! Scott Part# 18415-MR5-000

Things I've Leaned Restoring an '89 PC800: Fork Oil Lock 3
Hi folks, new owner of an '89 PC800 here that I've been restoring. The bike has many idiosyncrasies and this is one I thought worth adding to the knowledge base as I didn't see it discussed in a search of other posts. The bike was overdue to replace the fork seals and fork oil (among countless other things) so I removed the front wheel and immediately noticed one fork was longer than the other. Huh? So I took the forks apart and here's what I think happened. To change the fork oil, it's routine to remove the top fork cap, take out the bottom drain bolt, and pump the shock up and down to purge the old oil before refilling. However, whoever did this last wasn't aware of the oil lock in the left fork. It's part #16 in the parts diagram below which is longer and different than the one in the right fork which has the dubious Honda "anti-dive" piston. It's top collar seats around the bottom of the fork cartridge (part #19) with only around 1/4" of overlap. It is not captured at the top and there's room for it to slide around and get off center on the bottom of the fork case. The drain bolt goes thru the oil lock and attaches to the fork cartridge so it's possible to extend the fork with the drain bolt out where the oil lock easily slides off the cartridge. You can then re-attach the drain bolt with the oil lock akimbo in contact end-to-end with the cartridge rather than properly seated in it. A quick look at the OEM drain bolt pkg shows one is longer than the other to account for the difference in oil lock spacing... although I'm surprised the longer left one was just long enough to get some threads in with the oil lock misaligned. Maybe the last mechanic just used a longer one lying around to make it work rather than suspecting this meant a problem. Who knows with old bikes. I made sure it was on correctly when re-assembling the forks but you can probably finesse it back into its seat by poking an allen wrench up in there with the forks on the stems. I believe the result was it added a fair amount of preload spacing to one shock which is no bueno. If memory serves, preload spacing doesn't "stiffen" the OEM's linear springs like progressive springs. What it does do is reduce the sag and travel, raise the front end, and increase the force needed to overcome the preload before the spring absorbs any shock. In this case, I'm guesstimating it was around 40-ish lbs force which I could feel with small road bumps jarring my spine. And/or it had something to do with not doing its job by being seated properly. In any event, it's an easy way to unknowingly bork your front suspension. I did notice the suspension was pretty dang stiff in the first test ride and this largely resolved that. Too much so after adding the recommended 10W fork oil where it dove too much and easily with stout braking. As much as I like them, I didn't really want to spend more on progressive springs so I settled on a 60/40 blend of 15W/10W fork oil which felt much more satisfactory. The previous owner also had the rear shock set to the stiffest #4 preload setting and knocked this down a notch to #3 (which was surprisingly easy with the supplied bike's kit tool) which made the whole suspension feel much better balanced, stable, and comfortable in spirited riding for my weight with some headroom for cargo. Anyway, unless you have X-ray vision, it's something to be aware of when changing the fork oil and hope this info helps. Cheers.

Lifting A Downed Bike Solo 10
Does anyone have any methods for lifting the motorcycle alone after an inadvertent tip over? It's only happened to me twice, in a parking lot. I was able to use my back and push it up and over onto the open jackstand, but I'm looking for a car jack, block and tackle, lever or some mechanical means. I'm riding more frequently on USFS and other gravel roads now where I live and want to be prepared.

After sitting for 5 years at least... UPDATE 14
So the leaking has stopped. It was coming out of the red circled spot. That has seemed to not be an issue. That is where the tube connects that leads to the California emission EVAPORATION CARB AIR CONTROL VALVE that is not on my bike. I drained the tank. Put in 1/4 bottle of seafoam, and 1 gallon of new gas. With the best combination of starter fluid, choke, and rolling back the throttle a LOT, I kept the bike running for a minute or two tops. Reaching 4500rpm to 5000rpm but it sounding loud to me. (however I have all body work off both sides and am inside a brick garage so that might be exaggerated) I thought the different sound might be that it is missing on one cylinder. So I disconnected one spark plug and started and ran engine for 20-30 sec. Then replaced wire and disconnected the other and repeated. No change in behavior regardless. Sounded and acted the same with either side disconnected. Took off the air filter assembly and "inspected" carbs. Carb 2 diaphragm/piston was a little slow sometimes when moved with my finger. I dipped a plastic wire brush in gas and scrubbed the jet needles on both the best I could. (Seemed a little tacky like there was a residue) Piston moved better. Both butterflys move fine. I am hesitant to remove and breakdown carb. Would hate to not be able to reassemble. Any other suggestions on how I could proceed. Best operation required alot of throttle to get to 3000rpm-4500rpm...or that was my gut feeling. Bike would run for a min or two. Definitely runs the best while consuming the starter fluid, then the rpms drop and it begins to labor, so I am thinking it has to be starving for fuel. Change fuel filter next?

Where's the horn? 7
This might be the simplest mechanical question ever: Where's the horn? When I bought my PC800 last year the horn did (and still does) make a feeble buzzing sound when I hit the button. From this I inferred the switch and wiring are fine. I assume all I need to do is replace a 35 year old horn? I should warn y'all; I have the mechanical skills of a monkey... a rather dense monkey. I consulted my nifty 300+ page PC800 Service Manual. Page 18-1 has a chart that says for component Horn, "Inspection method" is "Section 25 of the Common Service Manual". I found nothing else. Am I missing something? Is there a second more generic manual for "Common Service"? Like... a "for the extremely clueless" volume? Presumably no normal human consults a manual over a horn. I suppose I could just tear into there until I find it? I was hoping to avoid a voyage of discovery. On my cruiser the horn is just sitting there looking like a horn. It's gotta' be about the same under the plastic somewhere. Second question. I have no idea the part # of "a horn". (I expected to see that in the Manual.) I would guess an '89 PC800 has basically whatever horn is on an '89 Shadow, but I could be wrong. Is there anything I need to know about buying an OEM replacement horn (or I guess aftermarket if needed)? Thanks.

I have searched for a backup replacement radiator fan motor online but the OEM part is no longer available. Do we have any substitute or modified part available (such as something from another brand or model)? Any advice for me? Mine is working, but I'd like a backup since it is a critical part. Thanks!
