I have several 110W Syntor X lying around. It is probably no longer my interest to get them working by the means that XCat or Piexx offered... But the RF frontend still holds promise with SDR applications. Has anyone documented the signaling for the RX LNA, TX PA, T/R switch, and feedback monitoring? Would love to hook them all up to an Arduino (or similar) GPIO header.

Anyone have a copy of the windows executable xcat.exe? My only copy was stolen with my notebook computer during a home burglary a few years ago. I've written a couple of python script to help me understand the SB9600 protocol better. So far I've only used a Spectra. Unfortunately one thing that I've determined is that RSS almost always uses the encrypted address option when accessing the EEPROM. Since "If D7=1, then the option should prepare to receive address/data information (via MEMADD) which has been encrypted based on some previously determined algorithm." this is a dead end since I don't (currently) know what the " previously determined algorithm" is! If someone would like to capture the traffic between RSS and an X9000 while reading the code plug that would be useful. I've uploaded the Xcat schematic and bootloader hex file to the file area. This will allow the brave/crazy to build a DIY Xcat. NB: We missed the need for pullup resistors on A0 to A7 in the original design. On a "real" Xcat this was fixed by adding a 2.2K SIP resistor pack on the back of the connector (pins 9 to 16). Hi group, just a quick update. I'm making some slow progress with testing the ability to edit code plug data on the fly using SB9600 commands. I now have a X9000 test bed setup and working minus a computer capable to running RSS slow enough to talk to the radio. This will make things more difficult, but it was not unexpected. I have successfully read my code plug over SB9600 using a RIB and a Python script running on a fast Linux box. It's slow, but it works. More as things progress. 73's Skip WB6YMH

I picked up a TL866II Plus reader/writer. It's a pretty neat little kit for about $70. So far I have been able to read and backup the codeplug and FW chips in the X9000 and also my old T3011DX keyloader. I believe the chips are UV erasable type since they have windows so I was unable to try programming them yet. I had a little cell phone sterilization box thing I got as a Christmas stocking stuffer item. I wonder if it would be the proper UV to erase them. If I can find it I'll try it. I don't know if the capability will be of any use here but figured I'd mention it.

I've attached the first cut of a schematic for a possible Xcat for the X9000. This design will not support Doug Hall or CI-V directly. Another fairly easy project would be a radio protocol converter for our TBD odd ball SB9600 commands. This project will only move forward if there's enough interest from the group to make it worthwhile. Comments please! 73's Skip WB6YMH
