Липкий Files and Photos Ownership
A note about Photos Ownership: Whoever uploads photos becomes the owner of those items even though he/she may have never actually had anything to do with their creation and original posting. For the original owner to regain control over the items here is my suggestion - Contact the existing photo folder owner or photo owner and ask for ownership to be transferred to you as the original owner. A note about Files Ownership: Whoever uploads folders or files becomes the owner of those items even though he/she may have never actually had anything to do with their creation and original posting. For the Original owner to regain control over the items here is my suggestion - 1 - Create a new folder with the same name but add an asterisk (*) at the end of the folder or files name. For example an existing 6146 folder would have a 6146* folder next to it (if sorting is by Name). 2 - Copy the 6146 folder files back onto your computer. 3 - Load the 6146* folder with the files. Change the comments section as required. 4 - Ask the existing folder owner, group owner or a moderator to delete the original 6146 folder. 5 - After the 6146 folder has been deleted you can delete the * at the end of the name. It's too bad that files owners can't be switched as easily as photos owners.

More Pre-Mix Local info
I double-checked the scope settings and found I had the wrong measurement selected. The actual output of the 78L08 is just a hair over 8V, and the switch, Pre-Mix Local socket and the board itself are seeing 7.76V on each band. Output is 20mV or so peak to peak, although the service manual calls for 300mV PP. So far, everything seems correct for voltages. 73 de Chuck, WS1L chandlerusm@...

Pre-mix Local board question
I'm trying to diagnose a problem with the higher bands where the VFO display will change to random frequencies while transmitting. Specifications for the PB-2153 are 300mV output on Pin 3, where I am seeing about 20-25 mv peak to peak. The output is at the correct frequency for each local oscillator. Supply voltage switches properly to each LO pin on the board, but seems low at 5V each band. Since the collector voltages are listed (for the earlier board, very similar circuits) at 6.6-6.7 volts, 5V supply seems too low. The board supply comes from a regulated 78L08 chip mounted on the chassis as a heat sink. It's fed by a 12V output from the Rectifier A board. It's regulated 8V output goes to the bandswitch segment S1A through a 22 ohm dropping resistor, then from the switch directly to the board pins for each band. The 22 ohm resistor would be carrying about 136mA to drop the voltage 3 volts, with about .4 watts dissipated, which seems rather a lot. Also, 5V seems too low for the circuit as described in the service manual. I'm about to start tracing the power from the 78L08 to see if it's actually putting out 8V, and where it drops to 5V. Any hints, suggestions, lessons learned etc. welcome. 73 de Chuck, WS1L chandlerusm@...

Ye Olde RL1 3
Looking for a replacement for RL1. I think the one in my FT101B has the "tired spring" mentioned in the service manual. Potter & Brumfield part R10-E1X6-V90 looks like it might work with a bit of wiring change. Interested to hear if anyone has tried this and what the result was.

FT101ZD 10M Only Incorrect Frequency Readout 3
I still have a couple of issues remaining with the "Parts" FT101ZD I'm restoring. It looks like I have a frequency counter issue. The counter works 100% on all bands except on any of the 10 meter band segments. From a cold start it reads correctly; then after about 30 seconds the readout of all 10 meter segments is 600 KHz low (e.g. 28.000 becomes 22.000). The actual received and transmitted frequency remains correct. Other than using DeOxit on the RCA connector to the counter, I've not yet gotten into it. I hate counter issues because I don't understand those circuits very well. Any ideas?

AC Power Cord FT101ZD
Even after a careful online search and checking with my ham friends, I was not able to find the female Jones plug for the AC input to my newly acquired FT101ZD. There are six pin Jones plugs out there (Mouser, etc.) but not with one pin having a different orientation (the "Key" pin) from the other 5 pins. So I took one of my six pin plugs that have all vertical pins and drilled out a pin to make a hole for the Key pin on the FT1001ZD's AC socket; works like a charm. Be very, very careful to solder the three wires from an AC cord in the correct locations. Usually (not always) three conductor cords have black, white and green wires. The black wire goes to the Hot pin; the white wire goes to the Neutral pin and the green wire goes to the Ground pin. You should check your cord by using a DVM . The round pin on a three pronged AC male plug is ground; the narrower flat and vertical pin is hot and the wider flat and vertical pin is neutral. Looking at the rear transceiver apron the Key pin is upper right (it's horizontal); the ground is vertical, adjacent and to the left of the Key pin; the neutral is vertical and directly below the ground pin and the hot pin is vertical, adjacent and to the right of the neutral pin. I'll try to upload a couple photos (no guarantee).

FT 101ZD VFO Issue 6
I recently was given two FT101ZD's, one a "Parts rig" Mark I and the other a Mark II. Both required work but both are now working. I found I had to remove the voltage to PIN 2 of the VFO input connector to calm down the VFO in the Mark I. The VFO was moving like crazy and when it did settle down it still had an issue with warble. Removing the voltage solved the issue but now of course the Clarifier function is no longer. It appears that the variable-cap diode (D01) for the clarifier circuit is defective. I have some of those diodes on order from China so I'll know soon enough after they arrive. Has anyone else had an issue with this vari-cap diode?

FT 101 EE Audio board 2
I have an FT 101 EE. The Audio Board is PB-1315. I am replacing the electrolitic caps and the Mylar caps. Is there any change in cap values I should make that would improve the audio on transmit or receive ? I think the FT101 could us a little more bass. Thanks James

Reconversion from 11M Local Oscillator alignment 7
I have a FT-101ZD late Mk2 that had been converted to 11M years ago. I recently got around to locating the correct crystals and have aligned the TX mixer, driver and RX front end stages per the service manual. I get good output on all bands and good sensitivity as well. However, when transmitting on 15, 12 and 10 meters with more than a few watts of output, the VFO shows an incorrect frequency - several MHz low, not always the same. Checking the output on another radio shows the transmitted signal is where it should be, so it's the VFO that is displaying the wrong frequency. I suspect I need to align the premix local board where the proper crystals have been installed, but the service manual is a bit brief in it's description of the process. Does anyone have a "cheat sheet" for this, or perhaps someone has done a video? I have an oscilloscope, and could whip up a simple RF probe if needed. 73 de Chuck, WS1L chandlerusm@...

FT-101EE installing Processor board PB-1534 2
I just got a FT-101EE. It has the PB-1534 Processor board installed. It works good except : When in transmit and the meter is in the ALC position, there is no movement of the meter. Yes I have turned the mic gain up CW. I tried adjusting the ALC on PB-1184 but it makes no difference . The needle is pined to the right. I read where the ALC adjustment is located on PB-1534. I can move VR2 and it does move the needle to the left, but still no 'uptick' when I modulate USB Are there issues with installing the PB-1534 in a FT-101 EE ? Are there any instructions for installing the PB-1534 in an EE ? Thanks James

Electrolytics - FT-101B 20
Hello, I have been replacing the electrolytic capacitors in my radio, and have gotten down to C142 and C143 listed on the parts list as being on the main chassis. I can't find them either on the schematic or on the radio. Does anyone know where they are located?

FT-101EE: Good RX-No TX 2
I have been away from this project a while and I am eager to get back to work on diagnosing and repairing the TX issue. This FT-101EE receives beautifully, and the S-meter seems to work properly in indicating received signal strength. When PTT or MOX is keyed, the S-meter needle (PO position) jumps to the left, against the resting pin. The movement is only a fraction of a mm, but just enough to observe it being forced the wrong way. The instant PTT/MOX is released, the needle momentarily spikes up to around S5 before coming back to rest on the pin. This same condition occurs on all bands against a dummy load. The needle spike that occurs after releasing PTT/MOX is to around S5 in USB, but when in LSB or AM mode it only spikes up to around S1 (max carrier). Just hoping this symptom might throw up a flag for someone and help me narrow down the source of the issue. Thank you, Vince, KN6KKZ

Good Rx/No tx 2
Wish I could offer more than moral support, but I' m fighting the same issue with a 101B. Every time I correct one thing it uncovers something else. Bad rectifier board, dirty relays, mismatched PA tubes. Looks like this could be a long running project!

FT-101 only transmits on 40m 5
Hi, I got this FT-101 about 2 years ago. I went through some checks to make sure tubes were neutralized and no obvious burned parts. Still has original tubes It seems to transmit and receive quite fine on 40m. I only had 40m dipole so didn't bother to transmit on other bands. This year, I got an old tuner, so put up a simple long-wire antenna. Again, 40m seems to be fine, I was able to get QSOs on CW and SSB. But I realized there is no output power on other bands. IC goes up and down as per the "carrier" knob. But on PO meter setting nothing comes out. Nor can I see it on my power/SWR meter. (again 40m it seems to work as it should). I am a bit stumped. What would you suggest I look at first?

FR-101D with LED display? 9
I recently bought this FR-101D with LED display. It was very dirty inside and outside but with all filters, FM unit and a 2 meter converter. Last weeks I cleaned it thoroughly and everything seems to work but it needs some realignment and the top cover can use some new paint. But how rare are these? I only find pictures and info of the D versions with the green nixie tubes. I can't find any schematic or manual about this LED version and it's all original Yaesu! Who has more info? Erwin, PA3DAF

No SSB Tx - Help! 2
Hello to the Group. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a friend's 2 FT-101E's here and both had essentially the same operational problems, that is both worked well on all modes, Rx & Tx on AM and CW, but no SSB Tx. I did get the first one going by cleaning both Relay #1 and the Mode switch. The 2nd runs well both on Rx and TX on AM and CW, but also no SSB TX. Looking at the Tx signal on my Spectrum Analyser in SSB mode, I can see a minimal carrier (-110dBm or so) and whistling or talking into the mic the signal rises perhaps 10dB or so, but the audio I hear is AM not garbled (not SSB) and no power to speak of. I've gone through this rig pretty rigorously and found several minor problems, out of tolerance resistors, leaky caps, and Q6 on the PB-1534 which caused a No ALC issue but having replaced it with a similar FET I do now have ALC but still no SSB drive. Bias on the Finals and driver are good (60mA and 20mA), so I'm in at a loss and becoming frustrated. I also swapped out all of the boards and both relays from the working unit to this one and I have the same problem, so it's got to be something that I haven't swapped out, the PB-1534 or the mode switch? Anyone have any idea on what I'm missing here? Thanks for any assistance. 73 de Claude - VE2YI ceverton2222@...

ft101b HELP with power supply removal 3
All- I bought a cheap Yaesu ft101b to learn about tube HF. Based on guidance from this board I started it on a dim bulb tester (receive worked), tuned it per manual and service manual (they do not agree, but both tuned it). Set it for 1/2 power and transmitted into a known resonant 20m dipole. Got about 60w out. Groovy! Next day it only received!!! Stopped and pulled the case to look for c13 and c125 to replace them if still the originals per instructions here and elsewhere. I found sources saying this is what happens if C13 fails open.If it fails shorted, fire ensues. I have had no fire, smoke, or evil smells from the 101. Opeed case and found this inside (see photos of rectifier board PB1076B.) This is PB1076B, the rectifier board. That stuff is not spray on insulation, the components are partially carbonized. And it still receives. Tough radio. How do you remove this board?? It appears to have been born in this position and cannot be removed without explosives. Most everything else looks accessible, but not this. No other damage evident anywhere. How can I get this board out? Anyone have one to sell? And while I'm asking, where are the C13 and C125's I need to replace? I have found several with those numbers. Thanks for any help available. I think I made or bought a mess. 73, Tom KO4HNB

FT-101 EE PB1547 Voltages 7
Hello, I am new to the FT-101 world and new to the group and new to radio repair in general (and to be clear, I’m NOT an 11meter operator). I recently got my hands on a beautiful old FT-101 EE. It receives perfectly but no TX (3 watts). I have pulled all the boards and carefully cleaned all the contacts. I see no sign of damage or excessive heat in any of the components, with exception of the NEC tubes which both have some pretty dark oval staining inside. No signs of modification in this rig. I have checked the voltages on PB1547, and have found pin #2 at -72v (-60v spec), pin #4 at -21v (-20v spec) and pin #5 at -192v (-100v spec). I’m wondering if that high voltage on pin #5 is an indicator of a specific issue, or with the bias and driver voltages being within reason, could those old tubes have died from “natural causes”. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Vince Fischer, KN6KKZ Ione, Ca.
