FT-60 transmitting off frequency on 70cm
7
Hello, I have noticed that my FT-60 transmit audio is a bit distorted/clipping when transmitting on 70cm. I have tested this with recording the receive audio on my Anytone 878, UV5R and UBCD436 scanner. All of them hear this distorted audio. I set my SDR up to 431.150mhz and when I transmit with the FT-60, it's extending beyond the edges of the 12.5khz bandwidth. The other radios are much closer to the set frequency and don't have this issue. Is there a way to calibrate the FT-60 transmit frequency at all? Can I do it for 70cm only or is there a menu setting of some sort which helps with this? Transmitting on 2m doesn't have this issue as it's much closer to the selected frequency. Here is my Anytone transmit. It's slightly off but the audio is perfectly fine and readable with no distortion/clipping: And my FT-60 transmit. It's extending beyond the bandwidth and sounds like it's clipping on louder sounds in normal conversation: I believe this misalignment or calibration issue is what's causing the clipping/distorted sound. I'd really appreciate anyone's help on this! Thanks. Ryan - VK3DCR

"AA" battery holder?
8
Looking for an "AA" standard battery holder (not a rechargeable pak) for my FT-60R, if one is available. Did an online search and did not find one. Thought I would ask here on the list. Power issue.

I just "inhereted' an FT-60r from a SK estate. just the radio. Picked up a generic desk charger, charged it up, and tried to hit a local repeater. Radio started fine , but went off, then restarted as soon as i tried to transmit. I think I know the answer to this before I ask. Is it the Battery? It charged awful fast. How to I check the battery? By the way, it exhibits the same behavior when plugging the wall wart into the radio itself. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Greatly. KJ4UAU

DigiRig for any digital app eg. APRSDroid or WoAD on Android Tablet or a Windows Platform
I'm spinning my wheels trying to get my Digirig up and running on my FT60. I'm looking for any simple VHF software platform that would be a good "proof of concept" to just get anything up and running. I've got the FT60, a Digirig, both FT60 connection cables plus an OTG MicroUSB cord to connect the USB cord to my Android tablet. I'm kitted out, but can't seem to get the TX function to work. RX is fine. Even something like a race-results reporter using FLDIGI. I just need a single, simple success to perk up my spirits. If anyone has a suggestion, and a successful set of software settings - including for SoundModem - I'd like to find something to copy. I'm not digi-technical, but I can follow instructions. My ideal would be a setup that could make ARPSDroid and/or WoAD work for light field communication. I'd like to be able to TEXT or E-mail my wife when I'm in remote areas where cell phones have no coverage. I'm all ears, Kevin, VE7KHI

Lithium DIY Re: [Yaesu-FT-60] FT-60R replacement battery
7
I have switched to my own 3D Printed case with 2 removable 18650 Lithium batteries and discharge protection. The disadvantage, the case is about 1/4" fatter. The advantages are that I can have charged batteries in place in seconds. This set up last a LOOONG time compared to the nickel batteries before recharging is needed. You can recharge with an inexpensive Lithium USB charger that works for a bunch of other types of batteries also. The batteries are larger but MUCH lighter. The BIGGEST advantage was that I got to have a fun project. If you are interested, I have posted my work on Thingiverse. If you have access to a 3D printer and a soldering gun, you can make this. _._,_._,_

connecting to FT-60 commander?
9
Have been unable to finish connection via FT-60 Commander programming software. I get to a window which says hold down PTT, in doing that I see "listening" on screen, but nothing else loads or occurs after that. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong
8
Hi all, So I was trying update and make changes to my frequency list in RT systems and I'm getting the following error (does anyone have any ideas): Communication error: The information in the radio does not match that of the file. Click OK for more information about this error. (When I click OK nothing happens). Click Cancel to cancel and try again. Stupid question: is there a way to just clear the radio and start over? Thanks in advance, Scott - KC3VUH

New Member - Couple Questions:
8
NEW to the FT60r world. Nice to meet this group! I'm not deeply technical, and like to keep things simple. Main rig is FT857, and MicroHam TNC thingy. Usually 40 Meter CW. I have a newly purchaced used FT-60r, taking delivery tomorrow. 1). I'm wondering if I can use my Elecraft KX3 USB control cable (TRRS) as a programming cable for CHIRP? Would it hurt anything if I just plugged it in and tried it out?? I'm an experimenter - but I'll give it a miss if there is a possible risk. 2) I've got a splitting sound patch cord - Female 3mm (TRRS) and splits into two marked male ends: 1 MIC - TRS and 1 Earphone - TRS. I have traditionally used a simple Sabrent Soundcard ($10) for portable communication with the KX3 - works very well! It just takes a Sound In TRS and a Sound out TRS 3mm plug. I'm hoping that I can find a way to keep it that simple without need of a DigiRig device. ?? Have these options been tried ??

Help programming Yaesu FT-65R with Chirp
8
I did not find a group for the Yaesu FT-65R so though I'd try here. Hope that's OK. If you know of a FT-65R group, please point me to it. I cannot get my brand new Yaesu FT-65R to program using Chirp and the Yaesu SCU-59 programming cable. I am in Memory mode. Windows 10, Device manager shows – Prolific PL2303GC USB Serial COM Port (COM4) When I use Chirp, I get the following error message Failed to communicate with radio: Incorrect echo on serial port. Radio off? Bad cable? And the display on the radio shows: Clone OK. Obviously it’s not OK. I’m dumbfounded. This is the first time I have ever had a problem using Chirp to program my radios, various Baofeng, Alinco, and even Yaesu FT-818ND. So I’m not exactly new at this. Only having a problem with my new HT. Can Anyone help me on this? Or is everyone using RT systems software? Thanks, Richard AG5M

Newest FT60 made in Japan again?
4
Hello group, I just picked up another FT60 from Giga Parts on sale last week for $144.95. This is the cheapest I've seen them new in awhile. This one is made in Japan. My other one that is several years old is made in China. I can't tell them apart of course, but I'm wondering if Yaesu has switched production back to Japan. Hmmm. My China FT60 is a 2012 radio as far as I can tell by the serial number Mt Japan FT60 is a 2023 Radio based on the serial number. But these radios have been marketed for 20 years now ( first introduced in 2004 I think). So the serial number decoding may not be valid anymore. Wonder how Yaesu was able to build the FT60 for 20 years without the parts going obsolete. Most radio manufacturers discontinue their production after about 5-8 years. I'm sure not complaining though because the FT60 has features that newer handhelds don't have to this day at this price point. Great job Yaesu. 73, KE6JZ

Comm Settings for Programming FT-60 With CHIRP
3
Hello All, After tearing my hair out and spending many fruitless hours searching the net for these settings, I finally found them. In CHIRP! In the Log. (After several failed attempts) They work. I was able to read the radio. Haven't tried an upload yet but I am sure all is now sorted out. Here are the settings Baud: 9600 Data Bits: 8 Stop Bits: 1 Parity: None Flow Control: None Hope this helps some other hapless soul out there:-) PS: I bought an JiYKR / WakeSnow 8-in-1 Programming Cable from a supplier in Australia. It will program most commonly available Japanese and Chinese and some Motorola radios. They are readily available on the net. NOTE: I had to file the end of the plastic connector body down to 6mm diameter to fit fully into the recessed "MIC/SP" socket on the radio. Thanks to Hugh Burnham M0WYE for the socket "heads up" in his article "Connecting a Microphone and Loudspeaker to the Yaesu FT60E Transceiver" in the Files section of this group. 73...Bob VK2ZRE

Can't Program Yaesu FT-60R From Keyboard
6
Hello All, I posted a similar plea to this previously but did not get a reply. Fingers crossed this time... I can not program my FT-60R from the keyboard anymore. S/No 6N450402 Made in Japan:-) And yes, I know how to do it. I have had the radio for many, many years and recently tried to set up another bank for a special event. The radio will no longer accept any manual programming. I can't find a "Program Lockout" SET function. I read somewhere that the memory programming either gets corrupted or the memory chip programming capability goes faulty. And that the system firmware cannot be rewritten via the normal programming port the way modern radios can. (FW in Masked ROM???) Otherwise the radio works fine. I can use existing memory locations and Banks just fine and VFO operation is fine. I just can't program new channels or Banks. Haven't tried Chirp. I am reluctant to to use any of the F1-F4 Memory Clear functions in case the Memory Write function is, in fact, unusable as I have an awful lot of channels preprogrammed. Does anyone have any experience in this regard? Any assistance welcome. 73...Bob VK2ZRE On 22/01/2024 8:58 am, Clint Bradford via groups.io wrote: Got a question? -- Clint Bradford K6LCS http//www.work-sat.com

Yaesu VAC-810 (VAC-370) drop in chargers
4
Yaesu VAC-810 drop in rapid charger for the FT-60 and similar hand held transceivers. Same as the VAC-370, just this is the commercial version part number on the outer box. The cradle and wall wart are identical to what is supplied in the VAC-370 kit. Brand new in the box, never used. I have a few of these available. $35 plus shipping. Eric K2CB k2cb@...

Microphone adapter/splitter?
2
I’m looking for an adapter/splitter that can be used to connect to a digital recorder and still use the handheld microphone. Basically a y-adapter that can split the audio off to the line-in on the recorder. Does Yaesu or anyone else make something like this?

CD-16/ VAC800 charger?
7
I was given an FT60 but no charger came with it. I bought a Vertex commercial desk charger CD-16 to charge the NiMh battery that came with the radio. Seems to work fine with it as I guess several Yaesu/Vertex battery models including the stock battery that came with the FT60. I just bought the Amazon Lithium Ion battery and the charger seems to work with this battery also. Is anyone else familiar with this charger or currently using it? Wondering why the two different model numbers for the same charger. Mine seems to charge all the various batteries in about 1 hour . 73, KE6JZ
