Panniers Tailbox now with Honeycomb Polypropylene Bottom
5mm thickness honeycomb polypropylene over 4mm Coroplast The weight of a wrench and the lock and chain combined with the pounding of potholes kind of bottomed out the left side pannier. I’ve added a reinforcement using 5mm thickness honeycomb polypropylene. I do my best to run a materials testing laboratory and report back to other bike manufacturers and custom builders. I learned from my mistakes. Actually the Honeycomb Polypropylene was not available until 2018, so it’s not my fault if I didn’t use it before 2018. The 4mm Coroplast is half the weight of the 5mm Honeycomb Polypropylene to be fair. Maybe just the bottom of the panniers needs to be the heavier material. Maybe if I didn’t run 85psi in my tires the Coroplast would last longer, LOL. The potholes on Hillside Avenue wrecked my panniers.

The old Lafree is relegated to the corner of my basement, I got a new Fly-11 48v28ah battery 500 watt rear hub motor Salvaged the “M321” fairing from the Lafree, only thing worth saving on the bike. has three speed settings on the left handlebar, 1 = 19MPH, 2=25MPH, 3=31MPH Six speed cassette I think hub motors have an advantage over mid drive, less wear on the chain.

Bubble-X Polypropylene Compared to Coroplast
HELLO! Long time no posts. Interested in Hard Panniers? Is Coroplast too light? Need something heavier without resorting to Acrylic Butadiene? I went to the plastic dealer looking for 4mm Coroplast, but they didn’t have any. They said $100 minimum order, and they don’t take cash… Bubble-X Polypropylene Honeycomb is what they sold me! I got two 48”x96” boards, 5mm thickness You need a router to rabbet cut a groove before you can bend it. A bit of a weight penalty compared to Coroplast, but if your bike has a motor it won’t be a problem. Or you can make a smaller box. you don’t need to cut a groove in Coroplast in order to bend it, that’s the key difference. Honeycomb has the same flexural modulus vertically and horizontally, whereas Coroplast is stronger in one orientation.

Giant Lafree • Latest Photos
Firstly I want you to know, there is a new Groups.io app, and you too could be a beta tester... Google it, the link didn’t work. It is not perfect, but outlook has become unfunctional. So the Lafree has had its motor removed for a while. The suspension fork went bad, the threads stripped. Fortunately it is 1&1/8” , so a thread less headset could be fitted. Unfortunately, 26” suspension forks with Vee brake studs are rare to nonexistent... but that’s okay, I’m too heavy for a suspension fork anyway. Combined with cargo weight, I’m better off with a rigid MTB fork. So the fairing and pannier/tailbox are wrapped in metallic blue paper, which led to the decision to paint the frame metallic blue as well. Roll call would be nice to see who’s still here. like I said , the new app is why I’m posting. Frane was degreased in hot water with a half bottle of Mr. Clean. No residue in the tub, it’s okay. Removed the controller and battery box. Also shelved the throttle. Built a new Coroplast box where the battery box was. Okay, I’m hitting Send now,

Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Panels•12 Photos
Over the past few Covid weeks , I’ve been experimenting with Solar Panels. It’s not enough to power a motor yet, but I’m thinking maybe 150 watts of panel could be installed on fairings / cargo crates , which would be of use charging the vehicles main battery. I had to install the panels because my Garmin (automotive) uses 2.1 amps. But I also use it to recharge my phone, and the new Bluetooth speaker. Plan to charge my camera on longer adventures. I’m glad I did this just to get some experience. Now that I know how a Charge Controller works, I’m becoming eager to create a solar/human hybrid powered vehicle. I hope everyone can view the latest photos. I put the warning “12 photos” in the title in case some people are still using dial-up.

Hello, happy new year, test message 2
Hi, just want to check in and see what’s up. I’ve been having some medical issues, was injected with Tc99 isotope, which means I’m emitting gamma rays at 140,000 electron volts! Not sure if it will make my bike go faster, but I’ll take a ride later to check... test image?

Auto Makers exit E-Bikes to build E-Cars
Article does not translate well from German to English but point is the companies are switching away from building e-Bikes to focus only on building Electric Cars which are a hot market now in Europe. One comment I liked in the interview was referring to e-bikes being in the Kindergarten Phase similar to where Cellphones were in 1995 (as in just as cellphones started to take off till now where everyone has one). http://extraenergy.org/main.php?language=en&category=&subcateg=&id=100951

New project 4
Ok, I'm trying out on here. I haven't been getting anything from here so I want to see if this goes out in email. New trike project. This one will get a 500w 24v scooter motor on it. The pedals with drive the right rear wheel and the motor will drive the left rear wheel. It's only a single speed at the moment. I'm not sure if I want more speeds on it yet. I refused to pay $80 for a new rear axle that it needed and decided to go instead with a 5/8" zinc plated shaft from home depo for $8 or so. I had to also replace the rear bearings as the original shaft was a 15mm type. Since I needed two axles anyway that worked out just fine as it was three feet long. I just cut it in half and am using one for each rear wheel. I haven't figured out exactly what I'm going to do for rear brakes yet. Possibly get some axle adapter and use disk brakes between the frame and rear wheels.

Facebook
I have not yet put this Group on Facebook but will soon. I did however create another Facebook Group called E-Trike Riders so if you have a Bent or Old Geezer Upright or a Velomobile and it is battery powered then consider joining.

Just Collecting Members so Far
Since we have till December 14 to move Members from Yahoo to Groups IO this will probably be just for people to sign up and stick to posting on Yahoo till Verizon pulls the plug Dec 14. So far I like the way Groups IO have set up the page and at some point when I'm really bored I will look up what Hashtags are.
